The puppies are now just over 7 weeks old, and the new owners are allowed to come for a visit, and choose which puppy is for them. Of course, it’s 2020, so this had to be done in very small groups, with everyone wearing masks! But that’s OK, it’s good to get puppies used to all sorts of funny looking people, including those wearing masks!
This is an exciting day, because we now know for certain which pup is Chisel! And this is the one that we’ll be following through the coming months of his life with his new family!
There’s a lot involved in buying and caring for a new puppy, and it’s a long-term commitment, so there is a lot of learning and preparation involved! Chisel’s new family have had dogs before, but even so, it’s good to be prepared. There are a lot of books written on this subject, and lots more information (some of it good!) on the internet.
Chisel’s breeder had already provided his new owner with a copy of this book. This one is written specifically for Golden Retrievers but contains a lot of good information about puppies of any breed. If you’re thinking of buying a puppy, we strongly advise you to do your research. Your vet and vet nurse can be a great source of information, particularly on the health care of your puppy, and is a good person to ask questions. We have our own website with some great information. A good starting point is “Caring for Your Puppy”. We hope our Chisel blog page will be informative too. But we can’t cover everything, and you still need to do your research!
