Dr Cathy Irwin B.V.Sc.
Partner/Veterinarian
What is your role here?
I am a Principal of the Practice, Senior Veterinarian and Manager of our Bradbury Hospital team.
When did you start working at MVG?
I started working here in 1995 with two colleagues from University, Jacob and Margaret. I have been in practice since 1991.
What are your qualifications and when did you achieve them?
I graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1990 from Sydney University
What are some of the things you love about the veterinary industry?
I still enjoy just working with the animals – they are so honest and forgiving, and I love the way they live each day in the moment – we can all learn a lot from them. Over the last 20 + years I have also built up wonderful working relationships with clients whose pets we have seen from puppies and kittens all the way through to their senior years – these relationships are very rewarding too.
MVG is a great place to work because…
Everyone can count on each other. A veterinary hospital is often like a hospital emergency centre and you never know what will come in and when. When you get a busy day and then you get an emergency you just know people will drop everything, stay later than their shift and help without complaint – then you know you are part of a pretty loyal team! I love too that we have a commitment to integrity – not just a word – we often use in our planning and even in our daily decisions – we try to do the right thing every time and make it right if we don’t.
Description of your pets / spouse / family
I am a busy single mum with two teenagers, Erin and Ben, who share my love of animals. We have two canine boys, Koda, a senior Labrador cross who is the gentlest dog I have ever known; and Oliver, a rather hyperactive and cheeky Cavoodle who is ball obsessed! We also have 2 budgies and an aviary of Zebra finches.
One interesting fact about you that no one knows!
My high school nickname was Hungry Helen – not telling you why!
