Parasite prevention is an important part of keeping your pet healthy and comfortable. Fleas, ticks and intestinal worms can affect both dogs and cats, and some parasites can also pose a risk to people.

Flea prevention

Fleas can cause itching and skin irritation and, in some pets, trigger an allergic reaction known as flea allergy dermatitis.

Because fleas can reproduce and spread quickly through your pet’s environment, year-round prevention is the easiest way to keep them under control.

Even pets that spend most of their time indoors can be exposed to fleas, so prevention may still be recommended.

Tick prevention

Ticks can cause serious illness in pets, with paralysis ticks being of particular concern in many areas of Australia.

If your pet travels to or lives in a tick-prone area, appropriate tick prevention is important. No preventative product is 100% effective, so regular tick searches are also recommended when your pet may have been exposed.

If you find a tick on your pet or notice signs such as weakness, wobbliness, vomiting, changes to their breathing or difficulty walking, please contact us promptly.

Intestinal worm prevention

Dogs and cats can be affected by several types of intestinal worms, including roundworm, hookworm and tapeworm.

Regular worming helps protect your pet and can also reduce the risk of some parasites being passed to people.

The appropriate product and frequency will depend on your pet’s age, lifestyle and risk of exposure. Puppies and kittens generally require more frequent worming when they are young.

What parasite prevention does my pet need?

There are many different flea, tick and worming products available, including options that protect against several parasites in a single treatment.
