Chisel is now 10 weeks old and it’s time for his 2nd vaccination. Every vaccination at MVG includes a health check, and an opportunity to discuss any concerns with our vets and/or nurses. In Chisel’s case, he’d been checked before and his examination found no problems. Fantastic!
For many puppies, the 10-week vaccination may be their first to MVG. We not only provide a check up by the vet, but you will get a detailed and thorough puppy consultation with one of our nurses, discussing all aspects of puppy care. Here you will receive a “puppy pack” filled with lots information (written by our vets)!
Chisel was weighed and he’s growing fast! He’s gained a kg in the past week – and that will continue! Chisel please stop growing!!
- Chisel was vaccinated today against:
- Parvovirus, Distemper and Hepatitis (DHP) with an injection
- Bordetella and Parainfluenza (KC or canine cough) using a nose-drop
It’s super important to note that Chisel will need a 3rd DHP vaccination at 14 weeks of age, and only 2 weeks after this (at 16 weeks old) is he considered protected, and able to go out on walks. Like all puppy owners, Chisel’s family is keen to be able to take him for walks, but it’s just not worth the risk until he’s fully vaccinated.
Look how brave he is in the below photos. Such a good little puppy!
Worming & Flea Control
Chisel was started on a course of worming with Drontal Allwormer. Pups should be wormed at 6wks, 8 wks, 10wks, 12wks, 4 months, 5 months, 6 months of age, and then every 3 months. MVG will provide you with a supply of worm tablets and set you up for free SMS reminders so that you remember when to give them.
Flea control is also important. There are lots of flea products on the market, but they vary a lot. We recommend products that are effective, safe and that make life easy for you.
Heartworm
It’s very important to start your puppy on a heartworm prevention program. At MVG, we strongly recommend the use of injectable heartworm prevention, and Chisel will be starting this at 12 weeks of age.
Final note – It’s important to book your puppy in for Puppy Preschool during this visit, if you haven’t already, as places fill up fast. Chisel had already booked in and started puppy preschool. Click here to see what this cute pup got up to on his first class!
