Wildlife and Rescue
Outside our business hours contact WIRES directly on 02 8977 3333. Alternatively, you can take the animal to the Animal Emergency and Critical Care Service (Animal Referral Hospital) or to the RSPCA at Yagoona.
Through our association with WIRES (the Wildlife Information and Rescue Service), we provide free care for sick and injured native birds and other native wildlife during our office hours.
Please bring native animals to us, and provide the details of the circumstances in which you found them. We provide free medical and surgical care where appropriate, and then transfer the animal to a foster-carer who looks after the animal until it can be released. Euthanasia may be performed if it is deemed necessary on humane grounds.
As a last resort, you can care for the animal yourself until we re-open.
- In most cases, all you need to do is provide the animal with warmth and water.
- This is best done by using a cardboard box and a small bed lamp (25-40W globe) to provide warmth.
- Place drinking water in a very shallow dish only.
