Rebecca Matthews Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Bec

Head Nurse Manager

What is your role here?

I lead the nursing team. I facilitate communication between nurses/clinics and filter important information and decisions down from management. Support management in dealing with staff/clinic matters and maintaining operational effectiveness within the nursing team and clinics. I also help with recruiting new staff and TAFE students. All whilst still nursing on the floor.

When did you start working at MVG?

I started in April 2010

What are your qualifications and when did you achieve them?

I have certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing I completed in 2006 and certificate IV in training and assessment, completed in 2014

What are some of the things you love about the veterinary industry?

I love that every day is different, there is always something interesting going on. The job satisfaction you get when a really sick animal goes home ok is something you don’t get to experience in most jobs. I love the relationship we get to build with our clients.

MVG is a great place to work because…

I love the fact we can be incredibly busy, but we always manage to have a bit of a laugh along the way. In an industry that can be quite mentally draining it is important to be around people who can pick you up when you are down.

Description of your pets / spouse / family

I married my husband Dale in 2012 and we have 2 children, our daughter Charli and our son Cameron.  Charli loves all animals but particularly our own (our 1 dog and 1 cat) and has such a sweet, gentle nature towards them. I am sure my cat much preferred when Cameron couldn’t crawl and chase after them! Thankfully Dale’s family are already a bit animal mad, so it prepared him for being married to a Vet nurse with many pets!

One interesting fact about you that no one knows!

I love keeping fit and exercise regularly. I also love rock music!
