After much anticipation (and growing excitement from his owners), Chisel can now go out and explore the world! A few weeks back, Chisel had his final puppy vaccination. We recommend that you do not walk your puppy outside of your own backyard until 2 weeks after the final puppy vaccination, so that immunity can continue to build. The time finally came for the family to go on their first (of many!) adventures. Chisel’s owners took him and their other dog Toby for a walk down to their local park and river. The dogs had so much fun, with Chisel showing much excitement with a stick he found along his trails! Chisel and Toby continued to bond and play together which was great to see, considering the rocky start to their relationship! But these “brothers” get along really well now, and as you can see by the photos below, they LOVE the water!
Chisel has since been on daily walks through bushland, and nature spotting by the river. Daily exercise and environmental enrichment is required to keep your dog happy and healthy. Dogs need that stimulation to expend their energy, as well as keeping their joints moving and muscles in tone.
It’s important to make sure your dog is protected against fleas, ticks and worms especially once out in the public mixing with other dogs. Chisel is currently on Simparica which treats fleas, ticks, mange and mites. He’s also on Drontal which is a preventative treatment for worms. Chisel had his first heartworm injection at 12 weeks, but because he is a puppy, he will need the booster 3-6 months later. Blog to follow!
